Datalinx Blog

Welcome to the Datalinx blog. Here we cover a range of posts and conversations based around our experiences of warehousing, barcoding and Sage software.

Scanning locations

This may not be as daft a question as it seems at first! If you use a wireless handheld scanning device it would seem logical that you can use it to scan products in different locations, ie. inside and outside the warehouse.
However, the key question is; Are the transactions processed using the handheld devices updated into your system a) wirelessly,
b) wirelessly but in real time, or c) by batch transfer (you have to physically connect the handheld into a network system or use a docking station)?
If your transactions are processed in real time via a wireless network you will need to ensure that the network covers the area you will be using the handhelds in.

If you are working wirelessly, but not in real time (or you have a buffering facility) then you should be able to use the handheld to process transactions in different locations.

With my consultants hat on, I would recommend that you double check this functionality with your software solutions provider.
